The Taiwanese giant Asus which is the World’s 5th largest PC maker. Asus is the latest manufacturer to join hands in “The Make in India” community. Asus on Friday announced that it is going to join with Foxconn to manufacture its highly popular Zenfone line of smartphones and Tablets in India. They have signed in a deal and showed interest to bring the manufacturing of its popular handsets to India.
They have partnered with Foxconn to manufacture Zenfone 2 series smartphones in India. Foxconn earlier this year has set up its own manufacturing hub at Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh in India. Zenfone 2 has been one of the best Android smartphones out there in the market with killer specifications at an affordable price.
On Friday Asus made it official that it is joining the “Make in India” club and Peter Chang, Regional Head ,ASUS India, said, “The Indian government’s focus on ‘Make in India’ has opened a plethora of opportunities for international companies. It is an opportune time to make the announcement as it will enable us to bring our cutting edge products to consumers who are looking for features and design sensibilities of a high-end smartphone at an economic price.”
As per report Asus and Foxconn will team in India to manufacture 1,50,000 smartphones every month which will account to 80% of the Zenfone 2 handsets sold in India. Zenfone 2 Laser will be the first phone to get manufactured in India, which is the newly launched smartphone by the Taiwanese manufacturer Asus in the Zenfone 2 lineup.
Asus is aiming to capture 5% of market share by 2016 and it’s making things effective to achieve this. Bringing the manufacturing to India would reduce the local manufacturing cost which would help Asus to bring down prices in Indian and also launch the devices faster at the same time.
Asus now joins LG, Sony, Xiaomi, Samsung, Lava, Oppo and OnePlus who are also part of India’s “Make in India” club. Report also stated that Apple is also looking to bring the manufacture of iPhone and iPads from China to India.
