Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications company, was popular for its wide range of Smartphones that run with very powerful chips and processors. Now, the company is taking on the phablet market with their latest flagship device, Mate 9. It is a follow-up to last year’s Huawei’s Ascend Mate 8, which is packed with an impressive all-metal build, longer battery life, and a rapid fingerprint sensor.
If you are familiar with Huawei Mate 8, you will notice that it has the same design cues with Huawei Mate 9. Just looking at the front, the two has chamfered edges and has similar metal body design. The Huawei logo was placed at the same spot, and they also have the same sensor array, earpiece, and even their dimensions are identical. The aluminum body of Mate 9 measures approximately the same height as the Mate 8. Mate 9 measures 156.9mm x 78.9mm while Mate 8 measures 157.1mm x 80.6mm.
Mate 9 sports a 5.9-inch full HD IPS screen display with a resolution of 1080p and a 2.5D shielded glass. Just like Mate 8, it has 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. Mate 9 uses a second generation Leica dual camera setup, which the company used in Huawei P9. The latest version of Huawei’s dual-cam has improved the monochrome sensor’s resolution to 20-Megapixel with a 12-Megapixel color sensors. These two lenses feature an aperture of F2.2. Huawei also includes an all new 6-axis OIS and a 4-in-1 hybrid autofocus system. This hybrid AF system combines depth details, measurements of laser time-of-flight, phase detection, and contrast detection. Huawei’s enhanced compression methods are capable of creating smaller file sizes without losing the quality of the image. Mate 9 also includes an 8-Megapixel front camera with an aperture of F1.9.
With Huawei’s gorgeous Bokeh feature, blurring the background picture of your image is also made possible. You can even re-focus your photos, which gives you the opportunity to shoot first and just focus your shot later.
Huawei also made this Smartphone more powerful by equipping the latest Kirin 960 processor and a Machine Learning algorithm. It is powered by Mali-G71 Octa-core GPU, which increases its performance to up to 180%; making sure that you won’t slow down. The company also claims that the 4000mAh battery will last up to 2.5 days of normal usage and 1.7 days of intensive usage. A more enhanced quick charging system and a smart power-saving technology are also on board.
Mate 9 also offers intuitive interface, where the user can access the menu options in three easy steps. The EMUI 5.0 will sort all your data, while the accessible shortcuts will allow you to enable your Wi-Fi, find your applications, and even block unwanted notifications faster. This flagship Smartphone comes with handy apps including the 4-level Fingerprint Sensor that has 3D fingerprint recognition, gyro, compass, accelerometer, proximity, and barometer. It also supports integrated Nano Sim + MicroSD card slot. The secondary card supports GSM and WCDMA.
Huawei Mate 9 is available in black, champagne gold, ceramic white, mocha brown, moonlight silver, and space grey colors and it cost approximately $775.
