Microsoft unveiled its first tablet and laptop hybrid dubbed as Surface in October 2012. Since then Microsoft has been adding series of features to the 10.1 inch laptop/tablet. Microsoft has sent invites for a press conference next week. We expect them to unveil next generation Surface dubbed as Surface 4 along with flagship Lumia smartphone.
Microsoft is making the Surface’s display bezel free by using a new feature called Smart frame. Basically this technology will allow the device to change the screen size. This technology compliments Microsoft’s tablet mode. The display size will be 13 inches diagonally when it is in the laptop mode and will be reduced to 12 inches when it is in the tablet mode. Microsoft introduced the new tablet mode with the release of Windows 10.
The reduce in the scene size that is to 12 inches when it is used in the tablet mode, will help users to comfortably use the device as a 12 inch tablet and to avoid unintended and accidental touches because of the bezel free display. This tablet/laptop hybrid will resemble the newly introduced XPS 13 by Dell which also has a bezel free display.
Beside new smart frame technology, Microsoft is all set to improve the resolution of the surface, it could include resolution as high as 4K.The new Surface is also expected to be lighter and thinner than its predecessor making it comfortable to hold it in hand in the tablet mode.
Another key element of the Surface’s success is the Stylus. Apple up the ante and showed off a new apple designed stylus dubbed as Apple pencil, last September. We expect Microsoft to improve the pressure sensitivity of the already excellent stylus.
Microsoft will announce the new Surface pro and Lumia 950 and 950XL smartphones at a special press conference on October 6th. The surface will come with windows 10 pre-installed and it will also come with Office 2016 pre-installed. Microsoft Office 2016 is the latest Office version of Microsoft’s productivity software, which makes Laptops and tablets more productive. It made its way along with Windows 10 on July 22, 2015.
