Last year, Motorola has unveiled their latest Android Wear first sensational Smartwatch, supported by Google’s Android software, which is the Moto 360. It is certainly the best-looking among the three primary Android Wear watches including LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live. With its finest leather strap, circular design and oblique glass, Moto 360 is the most appealing Android Wear device that anyone can buy. Its design is similar to a regular watch, but the battery life is reminiscent to other Smartwatches that suffers poor battery life and the price of $249.99 is more costly than any other Smartwatches.
Moto 360 got its fame for being the first Android-based Wear device that has a round face, which is quite a big deal since it is essential that whatever we wear will look good on us. Compared to the first two Android Wear watches mentioned above, the Moto 360 actually looks like a real timepiece, partly because of its round design. It is definite that the main reason why Motorola chose a circular design is to make it look like a real watch. Maybe Motorola intentionally made the Moto 360 more like a watch than a gadget. Besides the shape, the Moto 360 is made of stainless steel and a glass, while the leather strap is made of a top-of-the-line Chicago tannery. It is actually a Smartwatch that feels very comfy to use and the leather is malleable and flexible than the G Watch and Gear Live. The Moto 360 is also lighter than the two, weighing only 49 grams.
The first watchbands come in colors black, light gray and dark gray and the straps are luckily interchangeable. But in order to change the strap, you need to go to a jeweler; Motorola stated that the 360 strap can only be changed by straps that are specifically made for it. Motorola also releases the Moto 360 Metal Bands that has strap made of a solid stainless steel. The Moto 360 is a well-constructed 46mm with 11.5mm thickness Smartwatch that may sometimes look vast when worn especially for thin women. Even though, the Moto 360 is still a remarkable Smartwatch that I’ve ever seen, so far.
The Moto 360 Smartwatch sports a smaller 1.56-inch backlit LCD display, which results to 320x290p resolution. This may not be the sharpest display, but it’s enough for such a compact screen. The Moto 360 is also the first ever Android Wear Smartwatch that has ambient light sensor and supports auto-brightness. This is very handy since the 360 comes with a backlit LCD that becomes unreadable under a bright sunlight. Just remember that the ambient light sensor comes in an individual watch setting which they called as the ambient screen. This is set Off by default so when the watch is not in use, it will turned completely black and will lights up after lifting the watch to look at it. But if it’s on, your 360 won’t go black when not in use; it will just dim enough so you can still be able to look at the time when you glance on it.
Besides tapping the screen or lift your watch, the display can also be activated when you press the small extended crown-like on the right side of the watch. When holding it, the settings menu will appear. The welcome shortcut will appear to it that will take you to a number of steps. When you press and hold the screen, you can also see some watch faces selections that are customized for its round display.
Aside from telling the time, the Moto 360 can transmit the data in your phone to your wrist. You can view your emails, notifications, Google Now and more. A built-in pedometer and heart rate monitor are also included in the watch which you can find on the underside of it. The heart rate app has the activity monitor that you can use to track how active you are. Just enter your vitals and it will try to calculate your daily heart activity.
It is also powered by a really small 320mAH battery which you can use for a day. But if you use it heavily, it barely lasts the whole day and you may need to charge it every night since it can only last for 12-hours of minimal use. Moto 360 also runs with Texas Instrument OMAP 3 Processor, which is also used in Droid 2. Though this technology is old, you won’t experience sluggishness when you swipe the menu or scroll in the messages. This brilliant device can be charge wirelessly through the Qi Magnetic Induction. Just put it in the charging cradle and the juice will increase. While it’s in the dock, you can see a digital clock and how much you still need. You can also make it as a alarm clock. Moto 360 has a RAM of 512MB and an internal storage of 4GB. It also has vibration motor which you can use when receiving notifications.
Overall, the Moto 360 has a stylish looks and truly a premium build. It offers several features that definitely beat its competitors and the best option if you are looking for a handy, comfortable and well-crafted Android Wear Smartwatch which you can always bring at your wrist.
