Consumer Electronic Show is one such place where you get to see the innovative side of each company. So did NeuroMetrix, it came up with a wearable band which reduces your chronic pain.
This helps you reduce your pain through electronic stimulation. This device is connected and controlled by the app. The intensity of the therapy can be adjusted, you decrease it by moving your fingers downwards in the app. It is usually worn around the user’s leg.
Design-
It is the like the regular band, but this is like a closet that cannot be put together by hands. The band has spaces for the electrodes to be connected. It is black in color with a simple grove so that it can fit when putting around your leg. A button is available on the top which allows you to turn it on and off and to change the intensity of pressure applied. The electrodes have a conducting gel that sends the pulses into the user’s leg. The longevity of it depends on the state of your leg. If your leg has more amount of bacteria etc, would affect the electrodes and would need replacement.
How it works-
The device when put on a person, it first asks for an assessment test, where it decides what intensity of therapy has to be given. It compares the level thereby not making the user uncomfortable. This assessment period can only record singles user’s record at a time. After that is done, you turn on the device and will have to run a timed therapy. So a when you full charge the device it will give you a 40 hour back up. If it is high, it might come down to 30-35. To decrease the intensity you just have to bring down by touching the screen and rolling it down. You can look into the charge when the device is turned off.
Quell is a device which has clearance from the FDA. When the device turns on you, feel ticklish or buzzing. The intensity various according to the therapy it is carrying out, for a more intense therapy it might have a more of tingling feeling. So this allows you concentrate on your work or stuff you do and not on the pain. But there are a few problems with this device are; it may cause slight skin irritation when this happens.
It is accompanied with issues like the band is placed on your upper calf irrespective of the location of pain. Medically saying the stimulus provided has to be very near to a source. It will give you better relief than what the device does, so this can be a hurdle. It might not give you the right kind of relief you expect because of its stimulation being away from the source. But you can detect where your source of pain is by this device.
The device can be controlled via the app connected to your Android and iOS handset. The app is not greatly put in; it has few constraints. You can only view your therapy history, time of process, sleep mode, restart feature. But on the iOS, it has additional functionalities.
