With the everyday increasing popularity of electric vehicles and the increase in the sales of EVs, the manufacturing and parts capital has come down, and EVs are becoming more and more affordable choice even. With the increasing cost of fossil fuel, an average family is getting more conservative with decisions regarding getting a family car with rising options and the government giving special tax relaxation to EVs, it is making better sense to get an EV.
1. Hyundai IONIQ 5
The IONIQ 5 is Hyundai’s flagship vehicle being announced in India. The company will launch the car at Delhi Auto Expo this year. The car is supposed to be a medium hatchback with a range of 480km, and the dual motor variant will produce a torque of 350nm and 298 bhp of power. The vehicle will be priced at around 45L.
2. Citroen ëC3
Citroen India has finally confirmed their C3 hatchback with electric and has begun testing in India with public and actual traffic testing. The vehicle is expected to have a range of 350km with a 50kWH battery powering dual motors with all-wheel drive. There has been no official announcement with the price but it is expected to be a middle-range budget hatchback.
3. Skoda Enyaq EV
The Enyaq will be Skoda’s entry into the Indian EV market. The car is supposed to be a MUV with a brand-new modular architecture supporting different sizes and types of batteries and transmission and motor assembly, which might make it suitable for multiple consumer markets with ranging specs from budget to a flagship level.
The price and official specs are yet to be announced, with the top model suspected to have a range of 513km.
4. Mahindra XUV 400 Electric
With their legacy in the Indian market for being the go-to choice for 4X4 and offroad vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to roll out their flagship EV XUV 400 electric with the same treatment as their other market leading cars. The vehicle will have a range of 465km and fantastic performance in its segment.
5. TATA Punch EV
TATA will be showcased at Delhi Auto Expo and launch in September 2023 with further announcements still in the pipeline. This car will be the testimony for Tata for their seriousness for the Indian EV market. With their Tigor EV leading the charts, it has solid competition to behold, and stand and take a footing in the growing market of India.
6. TATA Altroz EV
Taking its name from its Petrol counterpart, the Altroz EV will be a medium-sized hatchback with A sporty body design appealing to the hatchback enthusiast market with a design language depicting Volkswagen Polo. It has some performance and reliability DNA. It is supposed to be a budget option for the public trying to get a taste of the car, with starting price expected to be between 12- 15 lakhs.
7. Volvo C40 Recharge
After the XC40 in India C40 will be the second EV from Volvo in the market. With the company targeting comfort and safety on top of everything will be hard to make its way in the Indian market, where most of the customer base targets mileage and cost. The performance metric and range are all very exceptional, and tier A in its segment, but not targeting the lower segment can cause the company to face hardships in sales figures.
8. BMW i7
With the more premium market as their target, the German manufacturer known for their performance and reliability has started targeting the EV market in India with facelifting their luxury sedan EV i7. The latest successor in the 7 series of BMW’s motorcars is supposed to have a range of 625km and featuring their famous new kidney grill design.
9. Volkswagen ID.4
The only flagship German company catering to the Indian car enthusiast market, supporting innumerable customization and flexibility, is rolling out an electric SUV, the Volkswagen ID.4. With an all-electric DNA, the ID.4 is in a particular spot in the market with no apparent appeal to a specific segment and trying to cover all edges will be a testimony of Volkswagen and their seriousness to the market.
10. MG Air EV
Originally a British car brand, now Chinese, has shown its upper management changing gears with more and more Asian DNA seeping in. The Air EV is supposed to target the budget and calculative segment starting from 8- 10 lakh. The car is a compact hatchback giving an essence of a smart car. But with a high cost and resembling other cars with a better market grip and way lower starting price, the vehicle is predicted to face severe backlash.
