- Windows XP:
Windows XP came in 2001 and is still being used in almost 30% of the desktop computer users in the world. After the first half of 2014, Microsoft had stopped offering support for Windows XP. They no longer provide security fixes and patches for the system, making the system vulnerable to the attacks. Around 420,000 ATMs in the United States are running Windows XP. This puts them at risk. Many of them are planning to upgrade it to Windows 7 but the time and cost involved to change each system is a slow process.
- Floppy Disk:
Floppy disk is still found in many stores and is being utilized by the business that still works with the old system in which accepts only the old storage devices. Unless and until they upgrade to new and costly hardware they would stick with the floppy disks only.
- Dial-up Internet:
Though high-speed internet access is available in almost all over the world, some people are still there who are using dial-up. Talking particularly about the US, a study by Pew Research Internet Project showed that 2 % of American still use the dial-up connection that means around 5 million people still are using the modem to go online particularly rural areas.
- Dot Matrix Printer:
They are still being used in many businesses. The operation of this printer is slow then its counterparts. But it provides a certain advantage to some companies. Its important feature is it can handle multi-party form efficiently than the ink-jet or laser printers.
- VHS Tapes:
There is still the market for VHS Tapes. According to the research carried out in 2013, 50 % of the American still use VCR. The online stores like Walmart and Amazon still sell blank tapes hinting that someone still buys them. They are also people in the US who still buy and rent these tapes for media needs.
- Material stripe Bank Cards:
Customers in the US still purchase goods by swiping the magnetic stripe bank card by the cashier, who swipe it and ask for the signature. The magnetic strip of the card is vulnerable to the data theft. Chip and pin use a safer PIN to identify the user. So, no need of cashier touching the card, stopping them to swipe the card in any copying machine.
- Phone Books:
Phone books are something that everyone gets delivered at their door steps though we have the facility of the online search tool to retrieve any phone numbers in much quicker and simpler, making phone books obsolete.
- Telegrams:
Before telephone, emails, text box, and instant messaging, telegrams were the dominant means of communication. It was used to create shorter and precise messages. Canada, US, and the UK all have their commercial telegram services. However, these are seen a way of sending someone a joke message or novel for special events.
- Typewriter:
Typewriters are still being used by the significant no of writers in many fields. They are mainly used in areas where there is erratic for example in India where court typists still use them.
- CRT Television:
The television sets that used cathode rays emission technique to produce light on a screen, it is still in use even when LCDs and LEDs are the talks of the town. The CRT is a big machine and consumes a lot of space.
