I am trying to install Gnome shell in Ubuntu 11.10. I have tried to install it both with the software center and with a terminal. My updates are all up to date. How can install Gnome Shell in Ubuntu 11.10?

Need a little help here.

My server went offline yesterday. After doing portscan it turned out that all the ports are filtered :

All 1000 scanned ports on (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) are filtered

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 201.06 seconds

So I figured out it's the firewall. Now I can only start server in recovery mode to access data.

How do I flush Iptables in this case?

I have tried to put "iptables -F" in rc.local and then rebooting, but that didn't work out so far.

any ideas?

I'm having some DNS issues on a new box I'm installing with CentOS 6.2. I am able to look up names using nslookup, dig, or host. I am able to ping machines by name or by IP address. However, when I try other tools, such as ssh, wget, or yum, they are unable to resolve names. What should I do?

I am planning to buy a new set of desktop computer that will be used for my work. My senior supervisor wants me to use Ubuntu because it is the common OS used by our company. But when I checked for reviews and comments, Ubuntu has lot of bug and it needs a fix very badly. With regards to Linux Mint, I have very little information about it. I’m really confused on what OS I must use.

 “Unknown error” is the message I get when I open the User & Group GUI on Fedora 16.  Also by entering the command” system-config-users” the messages “Unknown Error” stays out. Please help me anyone?

Is it possible to view the Calendar in saying Google Chrome, Firefox or IE or any other browser?

Whenever I go to the link it redirects me to the outlook and tries to open the calendar there.

While installing Ubuntu 12.04 on MacBook4,1 (currently Mac OS X 10.7, Windows 7, and Ubuntu 10.04 installed) using the 64-bit DVD ISO. The Install window is hanging after the network configuration screen where it can be chosen whether to connect to WiFi or not. Eventually the Install window is becoming frozen.

Any ideas how to solve?
