Misc Networking
Everybody,
I have a small wireless network at home and I need to setup my print server. I don't know where to get the IP address of my print server and I purchased my Linksys WPSM54G from a garage sale and it doesn't have the setup disk.
Below is my network setup.
Note: All of my computers are going online and I need to setup LPR on all of my computers since I will just be printing (not scanning) and I need to setup static IP on my print server.
Wired: Windows XP
Wireless: Lenovo T61 laptop (Vista)
Router: Cisco Valet M10
Printer:HP Photosmart 3210
The printer is currently wired to the router.

When I'm using the ping command on my Windows 7 system (ADSL WiFi connection) I get pretty strange results. The TTL (Time To Live) values are different for different destinations.
I thought that TTL was set by the system to a default value, isn't it?

Hello everyone,
I am new here and I am just desperate because I am having a hard time with my Internet connection, or should I specifically say, my networking.
I am using a DSL and my IP connection type is PPOE. I have two computers so I want to connect them both to the Internet using a router. I have a Zyxel p-600 series autovolt modem and Edimax BR 6314K router. Based on the advice on my ISPs tech guy who visited my place, I connected my splitter from my master socket (of my phone line) then the DSL cable directly to the modem.
By the way, my modem is more or less 10 meters away from my master socket. I connected my modem to the Edimax router then to my two PCs. However, I always get these problems:

Suppose you were going to set up a small network in your home consisting of two or three networked computers.
What network hardware would you purchase (i.e., cable types, computer components, wireless equipment, and so on) and why?

I have a problem with our shared printer. If I ping the IP address of the host computer it is connected. But if I try to connect or print a document it prompts a message saying, cannot find printer with other possible reasons. So I check on the services under system32. I looked into the network connection option and the status is Stopped. There's a start button below so I clicked it but an error appears.
What may be the problem? Is this the reason why I cannot connect to our printer?

I have a WiFi modem router. I usually leave them on at night when I sleep so that I won't need to turn it on again when I need to access the Internet in the morning when I'm still drowsy on my bed.
Will my router's life shorten or will it break if I don't turn it off. How should I maintain my device?
