We are a having problems accessing our Oracle database through WAN. We are using ERP applications where the application server and the database server are placed on different locations. Both servers are connected via 2Mbps MPLS link (latency 4-5 MS). The problem is there are times when I could not log in to the application server.

I even get an error message saying “TNS packet writer failure error”.

This usually happens when I enter a user ID assigned with more tasks, making its profile quite heavy. Other applications such as RDP and web applications work just fine with the same link, and when I try using a user ID with a lighter work load, there are no problems with logging in.

We have lost a huge amount of data and we have no idea how it happened. We have this HP-UX 11.11 running Oracle version 9.2.0.8 which lost hundreds GB’s worth of data.

I don’t think though that it would have been an accident nor it could have been done manually since doing so would take a long time. Also, the AUD$ log doesn’t reflect any user activity during the time window of 24 hours since the data was deleted.

I kept on seeing the error message saying “ORA-1650 exists (ORA-1650: unable to extend rollback segment R01 by 640 in table space RBS)”.

I am hoping you could tell how it is possible for the computer to lose such amount of data in an instant and for the computer not to have a record of it.

What is performance optimization? Please discuss the details of how the optimization performance affects or result the difficulties of maintaining the consistency of the systems during the future event of computer crashes or performance bar down.

Please I need an elaborative explanation.

I would like to upgrade from my Oracle DB from ver. 11.1.0.7 to ver. 11.2.0.3 . Any metalink note that I can consult? I found two (2) notes and they were referring to 11.2.0.2 Interoperability Notes EBS R12 with 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1] database.  Please let me know if there are things to consider before I upgrade from 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.3 in relation to Database Performance [ID 1320966.1]. Please inform me if there is any metalink note for 12.1.3 for instance?

For my university course,i had to install oracle database program both in my laptop and computer. But when i installed the 10g enterprise edition, it was not only installed properly and also i could open it.

But when i tried to write some query for practicing using my desktop, the oracle database program did not execute it which means i can only run the program, but can not execute it.

My question is what are the major differences of the two?

And which is providing more options and very optimized to use.
