Using Ubuntu Software Center on Ubuntu 11.10 I had the same error while trying to install Google Chrome stable release using Ubuntu Software Center. Is this the problem with the encrypted home directory which cause the internal errors? Can I fix this issue? I am waiting for your suggestion.

Recently, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and got the following error message when tried to install anything via Software center. I am not able to start anything and receive this error “Failed to lock the package manager”. I have no any other running software then why am I getting this error? Can I get proper solution to fix this issue? I would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.  I have a desktop that has an Intel i5 processor, 500 GB RAM, 1 GB Nvidia Graphics Card, 4 GB RAM and Linux Ubuntu.  I accidentally deleted some files that I would like to recover.  I tried using SoftPerfect file recovery for Linux but the recovered files got corrupted.  Is there any other way I can recover the files?
