Ubuntu Linux
Hi,
I'm a new user in Ubuntu. My internet connection is too slow to download or update Ubuntu software packages. Is there any way to install those via the offline mode if I could collect the software packages from my friends while they have a very fast internet connection.
Thanks.

I am using Ubuntu 11.04. Each time I properly shut down my PC and when I turn on my PC it checks the drives for errors. It takes quite a long time to check.
How can I get rid of that problem?

I want to switch to Ubuntu Linux for a long time but I have a few programs that I use for work( Solid Works, Pro / Engineer, and most importantly, "personal e-bank" that works only in windows).
Do you know if someone has a version of these programs for linux or at least a good substitute?

I am installing ubuntu on my system (F: drive) along with Window 7 which is already installed on it.I got an error as "No root file system is defined".I changed the file system from NTFS to EXT2 ,formatted the drive and tried again.
Unfortunately, I chose E:drive in place of F: drive. So, my all data lost from E: drive. Also, since its file system has changed, it is not visible in window 7.
However, when i go to computer management .I see the image which is attached here with. Can anyone suggest a way to recover the data from the formatted drive as it contains some important data.

I am trying to install Ubuntu as a secondary operating system to my Windows XP system.
I booted from Ubuntu LiveCD, ran installation setup and chose to create an EXT3 partition in an unallocated space of 15GB.
However, during the "Installing system" step, I get a "Failed to create a file system" error. What am I doing wrong?
Error:
Failed to create a file system
The ext3 file system creation in partition #9
of IDE1 master (hda) failed.

I have a problem with Ubuntu 9.04, sometimes the whole system freezes and does not respond to any keyboard or mouse input. Is there any keyboard shortcut to reset the system to avoid forcing the computer to restart manually? I would appreciate your help. Thanks
