I accidentally shut down my laptop while I was checking on my emails. When I opened it again, I got an error stating that a "file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem." My laptop is running Windows XP and I always perform a regular virus scan. How can I repair it?

Hello guys!
I need help on installing extension utility with my Windows XP laptop.
The error says “Error installing iKernel.exe: (0x10000).”
I try updating it by inserting the Win XP CD, but I conceivably lost the files.
I also got an alert from updating. The error is: “WINDOWS XP UPGRADE COMPATIBILITY The option to upgrade will not be available at this time because Setup was unable to load the file E:i386WINNTUPGNETUPGRD.DLL.” Can anyone please help me?
Thank you.
