Retina Macbook Pro would not allow any user to upgrade its RAM and Apple won't support any aftermarket hardware to upgrade its RAM,
what do you think should the buyer consider in choosing between 8-GB or 16GB RAM?
8-GB or 16 GB Retina Macbook Pro
Hi.
First and foremost you should consider the fact that the RAM is not upgradable. So once you choose you are stuck with it. So rationale would dictate that you go for the 16GB but that also depends on what you want to use your Mac for. Entertainment and non-heavy duty usage would be misusing the 16GB, 8GB is more than plenty for that, unless you are planning to do high level video editing or running multiple virtual machines. Also if you are a gamer, then you should go for the 16GB because games are going to get more powerful. To determine just what kind of RAM you need, launch Activity Monitor and click the System Memory tab at the bottom to check page outs. Page outs cumulate since the last time you restarted your machine, so restart your computer and track them under your normal workload: browser pages, documents, basically all the applications you normally use. If your page outs are like say, 1GB+ then you are definitely better off with more RAM, if very low then you don’t need the RAM. Money will also come into consideration, 16GB being more expensive by $200+, so there’s that too.

I am considering buying a new RAM and was confused if i should go for the 8 GB or 16 GB. Now thinking of it i won’t need 16 GB coz i do not intend on heavy usage. So as advised by the expert i would go for the 8 GB and it saves money too!Â
