The Resident shield provides the anti-virus functionalities for AVG, other than scanning. On receiving a message-“resident shield not active,” the package crashes. Toggling the software off/on manually or clicking click to fix it won’t work. The only way out is to uninstall AVG scanner and then reinstall it. Follow the guidelines and precautions before uninstalling the software. Use the AVG removal tool by running the AVG remover, and update the software after reinstalling. The updated version will run smoothly, in most cases. If the shield is still inactive, contact support system under AVG’s support center.
If your AVG antivirus starts showing “AVG Resident Shield not active”, it means your antivirus’ real-time protection is disabled or basically, your antivirus program is disabled. This is what protects your computer from virus infection and other threats. One possible reason why the resident shield is disabled is an expired subscription. If you are using the trial version of AVG Internet Security, your trial period has probably expired.
When a trial period expires or your subscription has ended, your antivirus software will automatically get disabled. To re-enable it, either renew your subscription or buy a subscription for the antivirus. If you can’t renew your subscription, another solution is to uninstall the existing disabled antivirus and install the free version. Download AVG Free Antivirus instead and install it.
