Advantage if I scan 14400 dpi with the ‘Silverfast’?

Is there any advantage if I scan 14400 dpi with the ‘Silverfast’? Is there any difference in Scan software and firm ware ? Any advantage is there, if we update the firmware.

Advantage if I scan 14400 dpi with the ‘Silverfast’?

 

Improvement in effective resolution is not provided even if you adjust to a resolution of 14400 dpi in SilverFast. The only main difference and advantage provided is that the image is now 4 times bigger. But it does not contain more image information.

Firmware is embedded on the chip with its program in the scanner. On the other hand, scan software is the actual application used by the user to scan his slides.

Usually if we update our firmware, the only difference would be an increase of the image quality. This is due to the fact that firmware contains image processing algorithms.
