Hi,

I am a lover of games and I have the Age of Empire trial version and I play during my free time. Recently, it has been throwing an initialization error as shown in the image below. Any help in solving this will be appreciated. I have reinstalled it several times with no luck.

Direct3D initialization failed, Possible causes:

Old or corrupted graphics driver,

Direct3D improperly installed.

Hardware acceleration disabled.

Starting the application with the workstation locked.

Please check the log file for more information.

Hello,

Here are some things you can try.

1.   The Hardware-Accelerated Direct3D 9 may be no available because the display driver can't support it, so go to the hardware manufacturer and get a newer driver.

2.   If you are still under Windows service pack 2, please upgrade to Windows service pack 3.

3.   If this doesn’t help, try reinstalling Direct X 9.0c and create a file called user.cfg in my documents/my games/ageofempires3/startup. Then using wordpad enter the following in the file “xres=1024”. Save, reboot the system and launch the game.

Friend the solution is that  go In C:Documents and SettingsOwnerMy DocumentsMy GamesAge of Empires 3Users3NewProfile3.xml file, and change [Setting Name="optiongrfxres"]screen resolution of laptop(for eg:1024×768)[/Setting].
