This is a frequent problem that new Alexa users mostly experience. Though Echo is equipped with seven far-field microphone array, it doesn’t always register the hot word probably because it is unable to catch up your accent. Follow the steps below to fix the issue:
1. Open the Alexa App and go to its Settings.
2. Then click on Voice Training.
3. Read Aloud any or all the 25 sample commands.
4. Echo will then be able to recall your speech pattern and everything will work fine.
If the above method does not work, then there must be some problem in the room like some barriers such as a support beam which may prevent the device from picking up the audio. Change the location of the Echo and keep it away from loud appliances and check whether this works.
