Well to answer your question why do people prefer BlackBerry phones nowadays, to be honest I have no idea. It could be a trend. Blackberries offer nothing more from what other mobile companies do. I guess it's all about personal preference.

That question is well hard to answer. You see there is no "real" definition of what smartphone is. The Wikipedia says that smartphones are built on their own operating systems. If that is the definition then i would say that every blackberry is a smartphone but so is every other.

Picking up the phone mostly depends on your needs and preferences. I for example use the most cheapest ones as I only need them to call and message. So see what you need then you can find the one that will satisfy you.
