Hello.

You can try the VLC. Download and install from their official website. It can play codecs with codec packs needed and most of all it is compatible with Mac PC.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

You can also try the Quicktime 7 from Apple. Download from the link below:

Thank you.

MPG file won't work on QuickTime or Real Player on you Mac. First you need to know is if the file is under mpg1(VCD) or mpg2(DVD). You could watch mpg2 at Quicktime if you have the mpg2-codec. Here's an official site to download MPG code for free.

But Downloading VLC player will be more easier for you to watch you movies, you can watch anything and you could also export your movies to any file format you wanted. Quite easier and hassle free.

That’s the usual problem if you only have QuickTime as media player to play videos because it doesn’t include the MPEG codec. The best way to install the codec is not download it specifically but install a video converter that supports MPEG video conversion. Installing a video converter also installs all the video codec it supports on your computer.

ImTOO Video Converter for Mac

For a video converter, you can try ImTOO Video Converter for Mac. It supports OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard until 10.12 Sierra. It requires an Intel processor, 512 MB RAM, 60 MB hard drive space, 800 x 600 screen resolution, and 16-bit or higher video card with OpenGL 1.4 or higher support. It supports converting videos between DivX, MP4, AVI, MPEG, WMV, H.264/AVC, MKV, MOV, and more.

It supports converting audio files between M4A, FLAC, MP3, WMA, WAV, APE, and more. It is also capable of extracting audio from videos.
