Dear Friend
Android is open source mobile operating system that is based on Linux kernel.
Java Programming Language is used in development of android application so if you know java it is easy for you to learn android application development.
The android SDK provides the necessary APIs and tools to develop android application.
As for the compatibility issue concern with visual basic it does not support android at this moment. To support visual basic it requires helper library which is mono and at this moment it is not supporting visual basic.
Currently C# is not supported but later this year Novell going to release MonoDroid which will support c# through .net.
As we all know, Android is presently the well-known and popular operating system in today’s Smartphones. It is a Linux-based operating system mainly designed for touchscreen handheld devices like tablet computers and especially Smartphones. The Android operating system was originally developed by Android, Inc. The company was financially supported by Google and finally was later acquired on 2005.
The Android operating system was unveiled in 2007 together with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, 2 years after Google’s acquisition. The Open Handset Alliance is a group of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies dedicated to improving, developing, or enhancing open standards for mobile devices. The first ever Smartphone running on Android operating system was sold in October of 2008. Android is an open source and Google released the code under the Apache License.
