I have downloaded an anti-spyware from a pop-up saying my computer is attacked by spyware. But why does it seem that I need more anti spyware on my computer than the past ones I’ve downloaded and installed?

Usually, if your anti-spyware program gives you a warning, you must do whatever it says you to do. I don't know if the pop-ups are saying the truth, because only the programs in your PC know what it happening with the system and with the programs that are installed.

The problem can appear if your anti-virus is not up to date, or it doesn't have the power required to clean your computer. Your anti-virus can only ask you to make updates. You must be attentive with this kind of warnings because you can be fooled by some fake programs. You can even get a virus while installing unknown software and damage your PC seriously.

An antivirus, internet security, or anti-spyware doesn’t attack the operating system because its main function is to protect the platform from viruses and unauthorized access. If you receive that popup saying an anti-spyware attacked your operating system, it can be just a hoax so you will get interested in installing their product.

Another possible cause of that popup is adware that can display different sorts of advertisement on your computer which directs you to rogue and malicious websites. If you think your computer is infected with a virus, try using Sophos Virus Removal Tool. This tool is best used on computers that are already infected.

You don’t need to disable or uninstall your existing antivirus because it works alongside any antivirus program you may have. Once installed, start Sophos then wait for the virus signature database to get updated. When updating is complete, click to start scanning your system. The tool scans everything on your computer including external devices connected via USB port.

When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus.
