Any Idea on how to develop a GPS for mobile phones?

There is a question running in my mind today and I want to find answers and I hope someone could help me. I have seen a GPS software for mobile phones that enables them to track their location anywhere in the globe. I've been curious about this technology and (if possible) want to make one for myself.

Most of the GPS software I found was developed using Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME). The question is how would do this?

Where do I start?

What do I need?

I would appreciate all ideas so please help me with this one.

Hello Steve,

Yes you are right that there you need a third party software to enable the GPS Tracking system on your phone. Which mobile phone are using and what the model of your handset is. The software installation and most important the settings from your prepaid company is according to the model and mobile phone. There are many good softwares in the market but I suggest you the best one. First you have you searched for the software of name "Mologogo".

Go to Mologogo.com and create an account there. It has different packages. You can get free membership as well as premium membership. Download it and copy to your mobile phone and install it to your phone. Then add your friends. There are some tools which allow you to track your friends too. Publish your location and set the timer. After the activation you will get the service which shows your activities.

First make sure you have a GPS-enabled cell phone. Then register the phone to site like AccuTracking to locate or trace a friend’s cell phone. You can even monitor his speed if he is driving. But, you have to install the AccuTracking software on your cell phone first to get the information.

Logging in to the system will let you view the phone's whereabouts within 100 yards. You can also use a site called Mologogo to find your friends. You will see your location in real time as well a map for easy direction.

There is also a service such as Mapquest Find Me but there’s a monthly fee.
