Â
The Department of Justice of the United States government sued Apple and five publishers for conspiring to raise the price of e-books by setting a minimum price for e-books. This was done for Apple to compete against Amazon in the e-book market. Amazon sold a lot of books under cost or with a small profit margin to boost the sales of the Amazon Kindle e-book reader.Â
All of this is good news for consumers, because with out this price control, companies like Amazon will again be able to provide a more economic pricing for e-books. Three of the publishers so far have already settled and will remove the minimum price. All of this doesn’t seem to have affected any book ventures, the e-book industry continues to grow, and will continue to grow as more people buy tablets and e-book readers. Also, this is a big win for Amazon, since they are the dominant force in this market.
