Hello! I just installed Windows 7 on my computer and I turned off the automatic windows update. But the icon on the right bottom corner of my desktop keeps on saying to turn on the windows update. Its from the windows action center. Is the automatic windows update necessary for the computer or not?

Receiving frequent Windows update are sometimes really annoying. Microsoft, updates or makes changes to its windows to keep it safe.
Windows updates, fixes several issues like security issues, issues with the operating system and many other such issues. Not installing them may lead to virus attack or any malware software may find it's home to reside in.
Though you might not see any improvements at the user end but definitely internally your computer is protected and its performance is increased. Though all the updates are not necessary to increase your PC performance, or to protect it, such updates can be uninstalled later.
