Best audio format to be used for quality

I am currently looking into building a collection of old songs. I am looking into ways to digitalise my collection. Can anyone point me to the best way this can be made possible? Also what is the clearest format to keep music? I have always used MP3 but a friend told me that FLAC is the best in terms of quality. Is that true?

if you are looking into digitizing your collection then your friend’s suggestion is perfect because one of the best way to store your music collection is into FLAC because FLAC reduces 50%-60% than the original MP3 in size and there hardly a difference in the quality, 320 kbps MP3 and compressed FLAC looks same you can hardly notice a difference, so I think you should go with the FLAC.
