Hey,
The vnc viewer for windows xp is used as the remote control software for the interaction with one user to another over the network access only. Also both the systems do not have to be with same specifications too as well. Also it is supported in many OS. It also uses by default ports and that are up to 5900 and more as per the request form the client part. Below shows the list of all the supported OS too
