If your Windows 7 x64 freezes. I have a solution for this problem. If your problem is the same as that window freezes for 10 to 30 second with constant hard-drive activity and shows the light of hard drive.  And recovered after that. Then you can follow the instructions to fix it

Go to Device manager and open “AHCI driver (standard 1.0)", or something like that, which was installed by windows automatically when you installed the new OS.

If it is not the right driver for your hardware.

Then go to Intel's website, and downloaded the "Intel (R) Matrix Storage Manager" from the given link.

They have a version that works for Windows 7 x64.

You have to install it, and you will see in “Device manager” under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, some intel stuff.  I hope the “ICH8M UltraATA 2850” storage controller will not change, but instead of the "Standard 1.0" (or whatever it was) AHCI controller.

Now it will show “Intel (R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller”.

If that problem is happening no matter what web browser you use, check if you have the latest Adobe Flash Player installed. Go to Get Adobe Flash Player to download the latest Flash Player for your web browser. If you are using different web browsers, you can download the different Flash Player versions to support different web browsers. Download Adobe Flash Player ActiveX.

This is the ActiveX version of the Flash Player plug-in designed for the Windows Internet Explorer browser. Download Adobe Flash Player NPAPI. This is the NPAPI version of the Flash Player plug-in for the Mozilla Firefox browser. Download Adobe Flash Player PPAPI. This is the PPAPI version of the Flash Player plug-in designed for the Opera and other Chromium-based browsers.

You can also check the amount of memory installed on your computer. If you have a low physical memory, try adjusting the virtual memory of your operating system. Go to Optimize Windows for Better Performance for instructions on how to change the size of virtual memory.
