How would you explain LDAP and SYSVOL folder? Would it be possible to link Active Directory to other third party Directory Services? Also, I would like to know where the AD database is and what would be the folders related to it.
Can Explain LDAP and SYSVOL
Hi Geraldin,
LDAP stands for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. It is an Internet protocol which servers uses to look up for information for email and other programs. SYSVOL folder stores all the policies and scripts of the server. It is from this folder, the policies and scripts are replicated to the other Domain controllers on the domain.
You can connect your Active Directory to other 3rd party directory services. You can use Microsoft Identity Integration server(also known as MIIS) to connect to the Active Directory to other 3rd party directory servers like SAP, Domino, etc. You can also use DIRXML, LDAP and eDirectory.
