Can I convert .doc files to .xls files on Mac?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering is it possible to convert .doc files to .xls files on mac os without preliminary converting .doc to PDF and then PDF to .xls as I am having to do on windows? Or does it sound too fantastic even for mac?
