I have this online project outsourced from a friend from India. We have this conversation via MSN last week and the project is set to start today. He provided instruction, login information and various links for me to start with via MSN. However, As I tried to review the conversation, I couldn’t find our history of Conversation.
I recently upgraded to Windows Live Messenger 2011 Build 15.4.3502.922. What should I do to retrieve msn history? I don’t want to trouble my friend again providing the same instruction and information just because I lost it.
Can I retrieve msn history?
MSN messenger keeps log of all conversation provided that the "Save History" option is enabled. You can check it by going to tools->options->messages. In the message tab if the check box "Automatically keep a history of my conversations" is checked, then you can retrieve you chat history and if it's not you can check the box "Automatically keep a history of my conversations" to save the chat history for the future.
To retrieve your chat history you need to go to C:/my documents/my received files/folder with your account's name/history.
You'll find several files, containing the chat history generally one per person you've had a conversation with. The files have the extension . XML. To open the file, left click on the file and choose open with from the drop down and then a window will appear, choose IE or Firefox or notepad.
Now, if you didn't have the chat history enabled and therefore those chat history has not been saved, you can always ask the person you had that important conversation with, if he had that chat history saved. If he does you can ask him to send those files to you.
