My phone’s broken and I need to text my friend my whereabouts. Can i text from my computer? If yes, can you please explain me how?

Can I Text From My Computer? How?

You have not mentioned if you’re using an Iphone/mac or an android phone.
So let me tell you both options.
For mac, it’s very easy to send messages to other iphones. Just fire up the imessage application and send your message to selected contact (only for iphone users).
For windows, use the application called as MightyText. First, install it on your phone, then sign in through your computer. You can view all your messages on your computer, and even send new ones.
