Hi Aeryn,
The answer is YES! You can switch or replace the at & t simcard on your iPhone because the sim card on it is not on the battery cover. The sim card sits in a holder on the top of the iPhone so you can easily replace it. When you buy iPhone, they will give you sim card ejection which is located on the box. If not, you can use needle or other thing object which you can use to push the SIM for it to be ejected. Or push down the small hole on it using a paper clip can help a lot. You can also watch the video on how to replace or eject your simcard of your iPhone:
I hope it helps

Replacing SIM from other Network Provider to Other provider depends on the device that you are using. You must be sure that your iPhone is not locked to AT&T. Because if your iPhone is locked to an exclusive network provider. It is prohibited on the phone to use other network provider. But if you will change your SIM for AT&T with another SIM comes from AT&T also, I am 100% sure that it is possible.
If it is really need to change your SIM due to certain circumstances, you need to find a cell phone technician to open line your iPhone. If your iPhone is under Plan or Contract, Opening Line will violate the terms and conditions in your subscription plan.
