I get the following error when I try to install blackberry desktop software 6.0.2 on my windows 7:
Error 1402.Could not open key
UKNOWNComponents a bunch of numbers and letters a bunch of number and letters
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.Â
To change the permissions I tried to find the key and I couldn’t find it.
I am not sure what I should do. I would request your valuable suggestion.

Upon reviewing your question, kindly try the steps below which I believe it might help you resolving this issue.
1. It will solve this by running regedit and browsing to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInstallerUserDataS-1-5-18Components"
2. Then, kindly look for the first registry keyindicate in the error. It would be the first string of numbers before s forward slash (/).
3. Then kindly click the Key and click Permissions.
4. In the dialogue box that pops up, make sure the "Full Control" and "Read" are selected for your "User" and "Administrators" accounts and then hit "Apply". However, if Administrator and System are not in the list, you need to add them.
5. Then, click Advanced then kindly tick "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permission from this object" then hit "OK". After hitting OK, there's apop up window that says an error, don't worry it's okay.
6. Then, click the "Owner Tab" and select Administrator in the list box then tick "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" then click "Apply".
7. You need to follow step 5 and Step 6 until you won't get an error.
Now you need to repeat the process for the second set of numbers which will be located inside the first key when you spin open it's arrow.

Hello Phillipe,
To resolve the issue that you are getting, you will need to run a "Fix-It" that will reset the registry security settings. You can get it at the following knowledgebase article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/313222/how-do-i-restore-security-settings-to-a-known-working-state Once you have done that, you can go ahead and then re-run the install.
Or you can try using system restore utility and see if it will resolve the issue. When you use system restore, it will automatically create restore points at regular intervals as well as the period when applications are added using supported installer methods. Every restore point has got the necessary information that you will need to restore the system to the chosen system state.
Regards,
Carl
