Cannot receive notifications from Hangouts app via Google Talk

I have recently enabled Google Talk on my Galaxy S3 and allowed update for Hangouts. But what I have noticed is that I am not able to receive any kind of notification when I get a new message. I have checked to see the settings in Google+. The message comes up if the screen is on, but none comes when the screen is off. Why does this happen? Is it the same case with everyone? Pls tell me how I can enable any sound or vibration with any new message. Thanks

Cannot receive notifications from Hangouts app via Google Talk

Hi Avah,

The reason you may not be receiving notifications from the Hangouts app via Google Talk is because Google has been having an issue with this sort of problem, and so you are not the only one facing such a problem. Since some users are having problems with their microphones not working in Google Chat and Hangouts, you will have to wait till the matter is sorted out. I hope this information helps.
