I am working in a small office and using a printer shared by 7 users. I have been using this shared service for over three months but never seen this type of problem. But I can’t find the network printer on my printer list.
I have by uninstalling the printer driver and then reinstall it again. Eventually I found the printer but after printing command I am getting the message “Access is Denied”. Every other users on the network having no problem except me. I have also checked the connection with server PC and everything is ok. What’s wrong with my pc?
Can’t Find Network Printer “Access is Denied”
Hi Sampras
Actually I need to know what the OS that currently you are using is. Since you are not mentioning it, I think all the 7 users using Windows. Let us try to do some simple troubleshooting here:
If this issue happens when user with windows vista machine try to print from a computer running Windows XP. You said that your machine able to identify the printer but encounter an "access is denied" error when you try to print. What you need to do is to create a port so you will be able to add your machine, this is how you should do it:
-
Open printers’ option by clicking start button on your window, click control panel, and go to hardware and sound option then clicking printer.
-
Add a printer. When it shows add printer wizard, click add a local printer.
-
Create a new port. Confirm the local port is selected in the list, and then click next button.
-
Type \COMPUTER_nameprinter name in the port name box, and then click the ok button.
-
Complete the wizard and click Finish.
There are several methods to solve this issue, which listed below:
-
Try to check firewall on your machine and also the server itself.
-
If you are not logged in as admin in one machine, that’s one of the probability also. Maybe access granted in your machine limited, so you need to check with your IT admin.
-
There’s another issue arise between machine vista with 32 bit and 64 bit. Based on my research found out that vista machine can not be as simple as windows XP when added network printer. There’s an option in Vista called "permission" need to be checked. Let say the server using vista 32 and client attached with vista 64. So we need to share the "spooler printer directory" of vista 32 servers. For windows vista there are two different set up of permissions need to be checked on it which are Share Permissions and NTFS Permissions. This is the step to do it:
Share Permissions
-
On explorer, go to C:windowssystem32spoolprinters
-
Right click on properties
-
Choose sharing tab
-
Select advanced sharing
-
Check on "Share this folder"
-
Permissions
-
Grant everyone Full Control
NTFS Permissions
-
On explorer, go to C:windowssystem32spoolprinters
-
Right click on properties
-
Choose the Security tab
-
Click edit then add
-
Select advanced and then find now
-
Choose "NETWORK" and click OK on it
-
Grant NETWORK Full Control
Best Regards,

Can’t Find Network Printer “Access is Denied”
This problem occurs when the SERVER is not giving you access to use a network printer, it can be a fault of your PC also you have to check them both in this case. For this just go to START menu and select Control Panel now switch to Classic view here you will see your network connections. Go to its Properties by simply right clicking it and selecting properties.
Now Check that the option “File and Printer sharing “is checked as shown in the diagram..
Anyhow you can also check the number of users that are using the printer if two users are using a service at the same time then it will also cause this type of problem on a network. May be your network not allows multiple access at same time.
