Hello guys. I need to reformat my laptop because of a virus. Now here’s the thing. I’m using windows vista home premium. I had already changed the boot sequence, but it won’t boot from cd-rom.

It brings me to this part (see picture below) and restart after that part. Any help?

Error:

Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause.
If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair
can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during
startup, choose Start Windows Normally.
(Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.)
Launch Startup Repair (recommended)
Start Windows Normally

There are various ways to get rid of this problem. I am going to explain two ways. You can try them and get it sorted out:-

1- Restart your laptop and keep pressing the F8 key until a list of options appears. Under these options you will see "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION". Go there and press ENTER.The screenshot is given below. It worked for me last time when I met with the similar situation, hope it will work for you too.

2- Insert the original Windows Vista Home Premium CD. Shut down your laptop immediately and then start it again in about 10 to 15 seconds. Once the menu comes up select "REPAIR" and that's it you're done.

Hello Amaya Pastrana,

You will need to check the BIOS settings and verify that indeed you have set the computer to boot from the CD drive. Or just change the computer boot sequence back to the hard drive and then restart your computer. When the computer is booting, it will detect the presence of the CD in the DVD drive and them ask you to press any key on the keyboard to boot from the CD, just do as the system tells you.

If the problem persists the fault could be with your DVD drive, maybe it is corrupt or something. Check that when you insert the CD the DVD drive recognizes it.

Hope this helps.

Your problem might be with some hardware configuration. See the minimum requirements of windows vista. If your graphics, ram and HDD meets the existing requirements, then go to Bios setting (while booting the PC press F2 or DEL button). In the advanced setting you will find the IDE setup.

There you changing the status you will be able to setup the windows, remember that it is only possible if your system fulfills the requirement.

The above stated solution may take you to the windows. But if you fail to do so, then you will need to use the Linux Cd to easily format your hard disk, that is in the next step you will be able to setup any windows on it.

But be careful before setup of windows you will need to format the hard disk in NTFS format.
