Can’t set up properly the tool in Windows Vista and XP, why?

Hi!

Anytime I want to place a toolbar on the left side of the taskbar, next to the start button, and then lock the taskbar, a small piece of a link within the toolbar will still show, so it will not shrink completely. The Lock the taskbar! Option is unchecked when I do this. The only solution I found was to use the handles and make it as small as possible. This only happens in Windows Vista and Windows 7, while in XP it works fine. Does anyone know a solution to get rid of this problem?

Hey,

This is a little problem which has a solution.

Go to the task bar properties by right-clicking on it and clicking properties. If you have the Auto-hide the Taskbar ticked then untick it. Now lock the taskbar. You should be able to lock the taskbar now.

Windows has many petty problems like this one, especially in the later versions. Hope you send an error report to them describing this problem. This way you will help them resolve this issue and help many windows users as well. Users must cooperate to send error report to Microsoft to make life easier for all them.

Hallo Anamarie,

If you cannot successfully lock the task bar using the shortcut, then you will have to try the long way. Try the following:

  • On the task, right click and choose properties.
  • Under the task bar tab, make sure that the 'lock task bar' box is checked.
  • You can customize the tool bars under the start menu bar too and the click OK when you are done.
  • That done, the task bar will be locked and it will not be carried out the desktop.
  • Also make sure that you check the 'small icons' box under the task bar properties if you want the icons to be smaller.
customize the tool bars under the start menu bar

Hope this helps.
