Is CCNA a prerequisite to CCNP Security Certification?

I am planning to take the CCNP Security Certification and I wonder if it's alright to go for it without a CCNA Security certification yet. Is CCNA a prerequisite to CCNP? I have finished the CCNP switching and I'm still working on the ASA firewall. Got any recommendations for me?

Is CCNA a prerequisite to CCNP Security Certification?

Yes, it is compulsory.

The CISCO website clearly states that CCNA certification is compulsory and a pre-requisite for attempting the CCNP certification exam.

There is an alternative however, in this regard. It states that one can also have a CISCO CCIE certification that might act as a pre-requisite to attempting CCNP certification.
