In my current job, I am assigned on the record keeping of all the operations of the fam. I found it very helpful to input all the details in a MS Excel spreadsheet. To note any information I cannot include in a cell, I use the comment function. Unfortunately, my CPU crashed but the good thing is I have backed up all my files.
The company has issued me another CPU which I can use for my record keeping tasks. To take note, this CPU has been used from other department. I would like to know how can I change the name that automatically shows when I am using the comment function to note that it was my work and not by anybody else?
Changing the Name on the Comment Function
To change the username:
-
In the upper left of your MS Excel window, look for and hit “Tools” tab from the Main Menu.
-
The drop-down menu will open, then hit or click or select “Options”.
-
Select the “General” tab from the pop-up window that will open.
-
Look for “User Name”, in the blank box beside that type in the desired name, which all comments on this document will be attributed.
To change other parameters:
-
Simply, move your cursor over the edge of the comment box and hit the right button on the mouse – in other words right-click it.
-
There would be a drop-down menu where you will select or hit “Format Comment”.
-
Select or click on “show/hide comment” from a drop-down window.
Hope this helps.

Changing the Name on the Comment Function
This is how you can differentiate your comments with the other persons.
-
First click the cell you want to add a comment.
-
On the review tab, click the new comment button which is in the comments group.
-
A small box pops out beside the highlighted cell, type your comment.
Note: The small box of the comment box always have a word or two displayed. This word(s) represent the name of the computer which can be deleted or left there according to one’s decision.
My advice to you is delete it and take the advantage by typing a unique number or your name or your initials before proceeding to write the comment you really want to explain in the cell. The number or the initials will help you identify your comments.
Placing the mouse pointer over the cell, the comment window just displays. The cell with the comment is displayed as shown below in Excel.
When you place the mouse pointer over the cell with the comment, the comment would be displayed as shown below.
