I need to buy a windows operating system for installation into a friends computer. My friend only needs to use the system for the microsoft products and surfing the internet. With many Microsoft Windows versions, I do not know which one to choose. Her computer is an intel i3 with 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM. Which windows version would be appropriate and why is it?

I would suggest you buy Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. The reason I suggest this is because a 32 bit operating system will only utilize 2 GB of RAM maximum unlike 64 bit which utilizes all the RAM installed. Another reason is because I find windows 7 more user friendly compared to windows 8.

If the computer has Intel Core i3 with 4 GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive, it is more than enough to run the latest Microsoft Windows 10. If you are looking for a version of Microsoft Windows to install on your friend’s computer, it is recommended that you install Windows 10.

Microsoft Windows 10 requires 1 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB RAM for 32-bit and 2 GB RAM for 64-bit, 16 GB free space for 32-bit and 20 GB for 64-bit, Microsoft DirectX 9-compatible video card with WDDM 1.0 driver or higher, and 800 x 600 minimum screen resolution. Internet connection is required for product activation and downloading of updates.

Windows 10 or Microsoft Windows 10 is a series of operating systems developed by Microsoft as part of Windows NT series of operating systems. It was released to manufacturing on July 15, 2015 and for retail sale on July 29, 2015. It is the successor to Windows 8.1. Microsoft Windows 10 receives new builds on a regular basis and available at no extra cost to users.

The latest stable version is the May 2019 Update, Version 1903.
