Yes it is possible! How ever you need  Jquery and CSS for this trick. Good thing to know is you don't have to write the code yourself because there are lots of jquery plug-ins available for you.

3. jQuery gzoom plugin
4. Anything Zoomer
5. JQ zoom EVOLUTION
6. Image Zoom

These are just one of the few plug-ins available for you to download. You many need to pay a little for you to use these great plug ins.
