Good day everyone! I have been receiving an error message from COM Surrogate. This error prompts up when I attempt to open a folder that contains any media files or videos. The problem is caused by the codec on the computer along with the components of the application that were installed by other software. These components are not totally compatible with Windows Vista just like those of DivX and Nero. Attached is the error message you will see. I hope someone can help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Maybe the contents of the folder where this error appeared are not associated with any type of media player on your computer. You can fix this by installing some media players that support the file types of the folder’s contents.

For example, installing DivX Plus on your computer will also install different video codecs for different video types. The DivX Plus Player that is included in the DivX Plus package supports these video formats:

  • .avi
  • .divx
  • .xvid
  • .mkv
  • .mov
  • .mp4
  • .wmv
  • .vob
  • .mpeg/.mpg
  • .asf
  • .qt

And also, Windows Media Player that is already included in your Windows Vista also supports different media types: .asf, .asx, .wpl, .wm, .wmx, .wmd, .wmz, .wma, .wax, .wmv, .wvx, .cda, .avi, .wav, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpe, .m1v, .m2v, .mpv2, .mod, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpa, .mp3, .m3u, .mid, .midi, .rmi, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .au, .snd, .dvr-ms, and others.

If you have no idea on what media player to install, check first the file extensions that were used on the files inside the folder. Then search the web for media players that support those file types.
