Hello Elaine.
When planning on purchasing a wireless network adapter, check out the manufacturer's website first. Manufacturers always advertise what security protocols are supported by their devices. Anyways, WPA has been around since 1999 so if you are to purchase a brand new adapter now, you are almost certain that it will support WPA and even WPA2.
Avoid purchasing old, pre-owned wireless adapters to avoid ending up with one that was manufactured on or before 1999. Wireless adapters are pretty affordable anyway and you can choose among different form factors such as PCI add-in cards, PCMCIA or USB. However, if for some reason, you end up with an adapter that only supports WEP, you could try upgrading its firmware through the manufacturer's site.
Good luck!
Hello Elaine,
Well, it is very crucial to know which network adapter works at a considerably fast speed because you do not want to get one that may end up proving to be very slow. I use an orange adapter and it has never disappointed me before, therefore one way to know which adapter works best on your country will be to inquire from people who are using it.

Nicke
