Computer Will Not See External Drive?

My computer refuses to see my external hard drive. I have tried different USB connections and it does not show up.  I really am worried about losing all my files. Is there a way to get my computer to access this drive? A program that might see it when the operating system won't?

Computer Will Not See External Drive?

The drive is not recognized by computer because Disk Management console is not up-to-date. Using refresh task 'refresh view'.

If the problem persists, close the program and reboot your system.

Type 'Diskpart' in search box in start menu

Right click on Diskpart and click on 'Run as administrator'

After it loads list volume, hit enter.

You will see your 2 TB Digital Hard Drive, but not showing a drive letter assigned to it.

Type name 'volume 1'.

Type assign letter Z

Replace Z with the letter you want to assign to it.
