Connecting data cable for diabetic glucometer to laptop

I am at a loss. I switched from a desktop to a laptop. I had a data cable for a diabetic glocumeter. I used this with my desktop. The connector is an adapter with 9-pin holes. The laptop I am now using does not have this feature. It only has the holes.

I erroneously bought a 32 bit prolific USB. It connects to a Serial Com4 Port. The problem is that I failed to notice that my laptop runs at 64 bit. Now I cannot install the connector's drivers. I do not have any idea what to do since I am not familiar with these things.

Should I buy a more appropriate connector or is there any way the current one would work?

Your advice and help would be very much appreciated.

option 1:- First of all you should check 64bit drivers for your product. You can download it from manufacture's web site. "www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31"

option 2 :- You can install 32bit operating system virtually inside the 64bit operating system. You can do this task using softwares like virtual box, virtual pc.

Hallo Angela_collins,

First of all you will need to buy another cable to that will use in case you will need to connect the laptop with the diabetic glocumeter, since the cable that you used for the desktop will not fit on the laptop as you can see the pins-holes are not the same for the laptop and the desktop.

As for the drivers, of your windows version is a 64 bit and then you happened to buy a 32 bit prolific USB, then you will have to do either of two things. First you may choose to uninstall the 64 bit windows from your computer and install a 32 bit version which will support the 32 bit prolific USB, or you can alternatively choose to purchase another USB but then make sure that it is a 64 bit for it to work on the 64 bit version that you currently have.
