Connecting more than 2 computer via LAN wire
To connect multiple computers through Local Area Networking or LAN:
- Turn off all your computers
- Connect Ethernet cables to each computer’s network ports
- Unplug the router and modem then connect them together with another Ethernet cable
- Turn on the modem and wait for it to connect to the internet before turning the router on
- Wait for the router to connect to the internet then connect the computers to it using the Ethernet cables for each
- Power on the computers
- If you are using a Windows Operating System, it will automatically retrieve a local IP address from your router which the computers will use connecting through LAN
Connecting more than 2 computer via LAN wire
To create a network with more than 2 computers to form a Local Area Network [LAN], all workstations or computers should have a working network card installed. You will be using CAT5 cable or Category 5 to connect the computers to each other. Since you are connecting more than 2 workstations, you should connect the computers using a straight-through cable. If you have no idea how to create a straight-through cable, please refer to Termination of Straight through and cross over cables.
In a straight-through cable, the wirings are similar on both ends of the wire. This kind of wiring is usually used in a Local Area Network. This kind of cabling is different when networking 2 computers. In 2 computers, the style of cabling used is called a crossover cable where pins 1, 2, 3, & 6 are crossed to pins 3, 6, 1, & 2, respectively.
