Hi Georgia

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the Acrobat Reader 5, if ever the problem occurred again just try to install the newer version of Acrobat reader.I think that problem occurred due to the acrobat reader 5 cannot support the newer version of acrobat reader, that why the acrobat file cannot be opened if you are using acrobat 5 and the file save in the newer version of acrobat reader.

Hope this helps you.

When the PDF is opened in the window of the application at this "external windows handler" is required as a default plug in.

Missing plug in or corrupted plug in may effect to open PDF file.

MY suggestion  is as below:

  • Uninstall acrobat reader from control panel, add remove program
  • Try to find the latest version of Acrobat reader
  • If not possible reinstall existing Acrobat reader  from your backup

My alternative suggestion is Down load Foxit Reader, it is free PDF reader and I work with it smoothly.

Then install and try it.
