I am receiving the following error message while trying to install Microsoft Office Word on my Dell computer pre-installed with Windows XP Professional: Error: 1402. Could not open key H-key_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindows currentversionrunoptionalcomponentsmsfs.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel. Can anyone help me solve the issue?
Could not open key on a Windows XP system
Hello Backstere,
I suggest you to disable the third party application to avoid getting that error.
Run As Admin:
1. Go to the start menu and find the program icon you want to start.
2. <Shift> <Right Click> on it.
3. Select run as.
If that doesn’t work try this:
-
In the start menu, right click on the shortcut for any Office app, select “RunAs Admin”. If RunAs does not appear, right click and drag the shortcut to the desktop.
-
Create a shortcut on the desktop.
-
Right click on the desktop shortcut,
-
RunAs admin should be there.
Activate the application/office:
-
2007 Office button / 2010 File tab.
-
Help.
-
Click on “Activate the Application”.
-
Follow prompts to enter product key.
-
Close the app.
-
Restart app normally.
