Crimping LAN cable on hook
It is my habit to crimp a LAN cable, while the other end of the cable is hooked on a computer’s LAN card or the other end is hooked on Switch/Hub, while the power is ON.
Just a while ago my LAN card got busted. I don’t know the reason why but I am suspecting that happened because of that habit, I realize that crimping may have caused the short circuit because the crimping tool is metal.
What I need is technical information about it, explaining the effects and if there is an available crimping tool, that is not metal in the market.

Hello Yolly,
I sometimes do this thing, crimp my own cat5 cord. I memorize the color cords in sequence.
1. In your case, Local Area Network is busted? In what point it is? The cords might not be in order since you do it yourself. The cord might not be crimp properly.
2. There is different variety of crimping tool available in the market like, Best Buy and any other computer shops. A number of plastic and metal crimping too that you can use and all can be productive in usage if properly used.
3. I just bought myself 1 couple of weeks ago since my Local Area Network gets a message Network Cable Unplugged. Once I saw this message, I know exactly what the problem is and what to do to fix this.

Most crimp tool for LAN cable is/was made of metal. By using this material, will do his job, to crimp cords, color code into the right spot. Crimp the cords and ready to use.
Suspicious sometimes can lead us to the right way, in your case, you think that the metal crimping material used is the main reason why it's busted now.
It may, might happened this way because metal cause static and might bust the connect, wires down.
